Dress socks? what is
considered a dress socks? Can dress socks only be worn formally or can it be
worn with casual attire? Do I match my
socks with my pants or my shoes?
We will answer those question in this article.
Dress socks as a rule are thinner than your
crew socks or
casual socks .
Crew socks are generally
ribbed on top and cushioned and used for athletic purposes,
casual socks are almost as
thick as crew socks socks on the bottom but a bit thinner on top and not only
ribbed but come in as many patterns similar to
Dress socks. But depending on the
shoe you can wear dress socks with jeans if your shoes are a bit more formal,
but if you are wearing tennis shoes and jeans you would need casual
socks you can go with crew but crew
socks are generally white, or black or
grey so cannot match your outfit. I know many of you men reading this are saying
to your self, hey I wear my white crew socks with everything, what's the
difference no one see's the socks anyhow!!!! Although it may be true that white
socks are pretty neutral and people may or may not notice them, how ever if your
socks are matching what you are wearing it will enhance your look even though
you may think it does not. People do see your socks, when you sit, when you
cross your legs, when you bend over and white
socks and khaki pants with khaki shoes
just do not match. To decide what kind of socks to wear, depends on the type of
shoe you are wearing, if you are wearing sneakers its pretty easy to know you
need either crew socks or
casual socks , thin dress
socks will not work for you. so decide what kind of shoes you want to wear and
you also decided what kind of socks you need.
Should you match your socks to your pants or your shoes? all depends on the
out fit, the lighter the shoe the better it is to match the shoe, khaki shoes
need khaki socks, if you are wearing khaki pants with black shoes, I would go
with khaki socks and make them an
extension of my pants when I sit down rather than an extension of my shoes., you
can even match you socks to your belt and shirt or other accessories much like
Michael Jackson did in the 80's with his hi rise jeans and red
socks to match his glove and jacket.
Dress socks should always be a cotton blend if you are wearing them for work
attire and ever day, nylon socks
should only be worn at night and formal occasions, remember nylon is not the
best thing for your feet so every day exposure may cause problems, with athletes
foot or foot order, so keep it cotton unless its for an occasion. Of course
there are those who are allergic to cotton but that is an exception , I would
recommend cool-Max socks for them and not
nylon socks.
For those of you who like your dress socks super thin but do not want to go
to nylon socks, I would go to a
100% cotton dress socks, because there is no nylon reinforcement it makes
the socks super thin, just about as thin as you can go with out going sheer. It
would also eliminate foot odor.
